— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
The renovation and extension of a single-family house in Eghezée, in the province of Namur, this project designed by STARC integrates new living spaces into an existing two-pitched-roof dwelling while fully insulating its facades and roof, maintaining a careful dialogue with the surrounding village fabric of Walloon Brabant.
The architectural approach relies on a measured densification of the building footprint, without breaking from the morphology of the existing built environment. The extensions housing the living room, dining room and kitchen connect directly to the existing living areas, with generous glazing oriented toward the garden establishing a seamless relationship between interior space and the green outdoor setting.
A separate volume with an independent entrance houses a home office, allowing domestic and professional uses to coexist without disrupting the coherence of the facade composition. The thermal insulation of the existing walls and roof is treated as a fully integrated architectural element, handled so as to preserve the red brick materiality that sustains a visual continuity with the neighbouring buildings.
The restraint of the formal choices and the consistency of materials anchor the intervention within its village context, avoiding any unnecessary contrast between old and new.
