— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
The careful renovation of a 1990s detached house in Temploux, in the province of Namur, Wallonia, demonstrates how a measured architectural intervention can improve spatial quality while fully respecting the scale and character of an established residential neighbourhood.
The most visible element of the transformation is the replacement of three triangular dormer windows with capucine dormers, a quieter and better-proportioned architectural choice that unifies the reading of the pale brick roof and significantly improves natural light in the loft spaces. This restrained gesture reinforces the overall formal coherence that guides the entire project.
On the garden side, the kitchen extension of approximately ten square metres strengthens the connection between the living spaces and the outdoor environment. The relationship with the existing grey-toned timber deck, ornamental grass beds and gravel zones is extended naturally, creating a fluid continuum between interior and landscaped exterior. The reorganisation of the master suite, focused on optimising the dressing room, completes the brief with close attention to everyday comfort and usability.
STARC, the architecture firm responsible for the project, chose throughout to privilege material and formal continuity with the existing building, delivering a home whose transformation reads as self-evident rather than imposed.
