This project combines the renovation of a single-family house in Rixensart with the construction of a ground-floor extension of approximately 15 m², carried out by architecture firm STARC. Located in Walloon Brabant, the scheme brings together two complementary ambitions: breathing new life into an existing home and carefully adding a new living space that integrates discreetly into the established residential surroundings.
The single-storey extension maintains volumetric continuity with the original house while introducing a restrained contemporary language. Its implantation on the plot has been carefully considered to enhance indoor-outdoor connections and draw natural light deep into the extended living areas.
The renovation of the existing building focuses on improving the performance of the envelope while preserving the character of the original structure. The coherence between the two interventions, renovation and extension, is the guiding principle of the project, bringing the whole together into a unified, comfortable and contemporary home.
