— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
Designed in Incourt, in the Walloon Brabant province, this single-storey detached villa is set within a rural village context defined by adjoining pink-brick buildings and a plot bordered at its rear by mature trees. The project was designed by STARC, an architecture firm based in Gembloux, with a parti centred on volumetric restraint and sensitive contextual integration, responding to a gently sloping site that opens onto a generous green landscape.
The chosen volume is compact and horizontal, fully on one level, its footprint attuned to the soft topography of the site while maintaining a coherent scale with the neighbouring built fabric. The interior layout is rational and fluid, offering complete step-free accessibility throughout. The main glazing is concentrated towards the rear of the plot, where existing vegetation provides a natural landscaped depth, while openings on the street side are deliberately limited, preserving the site's intimacy and spatial quality.
The materiality is rooted in the character of the surrounding architecture: a brick envelope, in tones that resonate with neighbouring constructions, ensures the project's integration into the village landscape without resorting to imitation. A pitched roof reinforces this contextual grounding. The landscaping strategy prioritises soil permeability and the preservation of the site's green character, keeping impermeable surfaces to the strict minimum.
