— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
The renovation and transformation of a village house in Celles, in the province of Namur, brings together a careful reading of the existing building and a contemporary reinterpretation of its interior and exterior spaces.
STARC, an architecture firm based in Wallonia, approached this project with the aim of preserving the authentic character of the house while rethinking its layout and overall volumetry to meet present-day living requirements. The building's integration within the village fabric of Celles informed every formal decision, from the treatment of the facades to the relationship between living spaces and their immediate surroundings.
The chosen materiality engages in a dialogue with local architectural traditions, ensuring a coherent and respectful integration within this village of the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region. The transformation prioritises natural light and the quality of interior volumes, while giving the house a renewed clarity and legibility.
This project demonstrates how a precise and restrained intervention can breathe new life into vernacular residential architecture without erasing its memory.
