— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Vitrival, in the province of Namur in Wallonia, STARC designed a detached single-family house of approximately nine by ten metres, with a separate garage, carried out through self-build construction. The project reflects a considered approach to new residential architecture, where the compact footprint responds to both the site constraints and the ambitions of a client directly involved in building their own home.
The clear and balanced massing of the house promotes good natural light exposure across all four elevations. Positioning the garage as a separate volume establishes a functional hierarchy on the plot while maintaining the overall legibility of the built ensemble. This site organisation demonstrates a careful attention to integration within the suburban fabric of the Namur province.
The architectural support provided throughout the self-build process allowed the regulatory requirements to be reconciled with the client's constructive choices, while ensuring the formal and technical coherence of the project as a whole. This commission illustrates the architecture firm's ability to adapt its scope of services to diverse methods of delivery, including alternative modes of construction.
