— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
Renovation and extension of a residential property in Villers-la-Ville, in the province of Walloon Brabant, centred on the construction of an additional volume housing an indoor swimming pool, the fitting out of outbuildings, and a full renovation of the existing facades.
The project is rooted in a careful reading of the existing building and its setting within a rural landscape characteristic of Walloon Brabant. The extension is designed as a volume that responds coherently to the host architecture, its massing and materiality entering into dialogue with the renovated facades to create a unified and controlled ensemble.
The space dedicated to the indoor pool is given particular attention in terms of natural light and the relationship between the interior and the surrounding landscape. The fitted outbuildings complete the brief, integrating discreetly into the overall composition without disrupting the character of the site.
This project, carried out by STARC, an architecture firm based in Gembloux, Belgium, reflects a holistic approach to residential renovation in which work on the existing fabric and new construction respond to one another with architectural restraint and consistency.
