In Perwez, in the Walloon Brabant province, STARC designed a residential annexe of approximately 90 m² to create a self-contained ancillary dwelling unit alongside an existing home. Completed in 2024, the project responds to a growing need for gentle densification of rural built fabric in Wallonia.
The programme brings together a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and storage room within a compact, coherent volume spread over one or two storeys. The siting of the annexe was carefully studied to preserve the spatial qualities of the plot, ensure adequate natural light and establish a clear transition between the two built entities.
This architecture firm's approach prioritises volumetric sobriety and contextual integration, in keeping with the semi-rural character of Perwez. The extension offers a measured response to contemporary housing challenges: unlocking the latent potential of an existing plot without disrupting the landscape or the reading of the original building.
