— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Tongrinne, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), STARC designed a detached four-facade timber-frame house built through self-construction, combining precise architectural design with a hands-on, owner-led building process. The choice of a timber structure gives the project a strong internal coherence, where the architectural concept and the construction method reinforce one another from the outset.
The building's massing integrates quietly into the suburban fabric of Tongrinne while asserting a clear residential identity. The timber materiality, expressed both in the structural frame and the facade cladding, establishes a natural continuity between interior and exterior, and grounds the house in a durable, low-impact approach to residential architecture.
The interior layout prioritises fluid living spaces and generous access to natural light, taking full advantage of the four-facade configuration to engage with every orientation. This project reflects the architecture firm's ability to support participatory and self-build construction processes, where the client becomes a key actor in the delivery of the project.
