Extension and interior conversion in Bouge, Namur province, Belgium: this project combines the construction of an elevated terrace with the fitting out of a garden-level studio, a dual-level intervention that adds significant spatial value to an existing residential property.
The elevated terrace establishes a new relationship between the dwelling and its landscape, extending living space outward from the upper floors through a carefully positioned outdoor platform. Its siting takes into account solar orientation, privacy, and the overall massing of the house, ensuring a coherent integration within the residential context of Bouge.
At garden level, the studio provides a self-contained and functional unit with direct access to the garden and thoughtfully oriented natural light. The restrained architectural approach maintains continuity with the existing building while genuinely enhancing the property's range of uses.
Designed by STARC, this residential architecture project in Wallonia demonstrates how targeted, context-sensitive interventions can unlock the full potential of an existing home without compromising its character.
