— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Spy, in the province of Namur, architecture firm STARC led the renovation of a former police station converted into a single-family home, extended with a contemporary addition designed to open the building towards its garden. The project brings together the rehabilitation of an existing structure and a new architectural intervention, in a coherent approach that honours the character of the place while giving it a genuinely contemporary quality of life.

The extension articulates the transition between interior and exterior, redefining the relationship with the garden as a living space in its own right. The added volume enters into dialogue with the original building without deferring to it, establishing a spatial and luminous continuity between the living areas and the outdoors. Natural light becomes a structuring element of the interior.

The renovation pays careful attention to coherence between old and new, both in terms of materiality and spatial organisation. This balance between conservation and transformation defines the identity of the project: restoring a building with a singular history to a lasting residential purpose, firmly rooted in its Wallonian context.
