— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Andenne, in the province of Namur, Wallonia, STARC designed a timber-frame extension on stilts that integrates discreetly into its existing built environment. This new construction project adds a complementary volume to the existing dwelling, elevated above the natural ground level to preserve soil quality and minimize the overall footprint.
The use of a timber frame structure gives the extension a warm materiality and strong constructive coherence. This lightweight structural system enables swift and precise construction, while offering excellent thermal performance and a reduced environmental impact compared to conventional building techniques.
The volumetric composition of the extension was carefully considered to engage in dialogue with the existing building, respecting the scale of the surrounding urban fabric and maintaining a balanced relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The stilt device establishes a distinctive connection with the immediate landscape, lending the intervention a lighter and more contemporary architectural reading.
This project in Andenne reflects the expertise of the architecture firm in delivering architectural solutions that are contextually sensitive, resource-conscious, and finely tuned to their environment, whether in Namur province or across Wallonia more broadly.
