— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
Designed in 2024 in Ciney, in the province of Namur in Wallonia, this two-façade semi-detached family house demonstrates a considered approach to new residential construction within an established urban fabric. The project engages with the scale and rhythm of its neighbouring buildings, proposing a volumetry that asserts its own identity while remaining respectful of the surrounding streetscape. The plot layout organises the living spaces in a clear and efficient sequence from the street front to the garden, with careful attention paid to natural light distribution across all levels. Interior circulation is streamlined, and the proportions of each room contribute to a comfortable and well-balanced domestic environment. STARC, an architecture and engineering firm based in Gembloux, Belgium, delivered the full design and project management for this residential scheme, ensuring that material choices and architectural language remained coherent with the character of the neighbourhood. This new-build house in Ciney reflects the practice's commitment to contextual precision and spatial quality in everyday residential architecture.
