A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Malèves-Sainte-Marie-Wastinnes, in the municipality of Perwez, STARC designed a four-façade single-family house that integrates discreetly into the rural built environment of Walloon Brabant. The building's siting follows the general rural planning regulations: the garage aligns with the cadastral boundaries along the street and right-hand side, while a 6.70-metre lateral setback provides generous access to the rear garden and the surrounding countryside.

The massing is composed of two simple interlocking volumes crowned by pitched roofs whose ridge heights match those of the neighbouring properties. This classically inspired composition is anchored by a carefully considered material palette: red-brick façades with a blue stone plinth, dark anthracite slate roofs, and white PVC window frames. Vertically proportioned openings reinforce the traditional character of the house, consistent with the village's architectural identity.

At the rear, a wide bay window projecting slightly beyond the main volume introduces a subtle contemporary touch. Oriented to the north-east, it draws in soft, diffuse daylight and morning sunlight, flooding the open-plan living spaces on the ground floor with natural light throughout the day. A terrace extends seamlessly from these living areas toward the garden and the open agricultural landscape beyond. The four-bedroom house is insulated to meet current energy performance standards, ensuring a comfortable and sustainable living environment for its future occupants.
