— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Bomal, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), STARC carried out the conversion of a former barn and outbuilding into a wellness space with ancillary accommodation, combining rural heritage with a contemporary programme. The architectural approach prioritises the preservation of the existing agricultural building's volumetry and materiality, while fully reimagining the interior layout around rest and well-being.

The conversion articulates a carefully designed wellness area, conceived to foster intimacy and relaxation, alongside a functional ancillary dwelling. The dialogue between the historic rural volume and its new uses is handled with restraint, respecting the constructive logic of the existing structure and making the most of natural light to create a serene, welcoming atmosphere.

The project's setting within the rural landscape of Bomal grounds it firmly in its context, maintaining continuity with the surrounding built environment. This project demonstrates the ability of an architecture firm to breathe new life into a disused agricultural building, turning it into a place of retreat that honours local architectural identity while meeting contemporary living expectations.
