— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Nil-Saint-Vincent-Saint-Martin, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), this project involved the comprehensive transformation of a single-family home, combining energy renovation, interior redesign, the construction of a single-storey extension of approximately 32 m², and the conversion of the existing garage.
The project is defined by an exceptional programmatic brief: the creation of a dedicated space to house a Boeing 737 cockpit. This unique requirement called for careful consideration of interior volumes, structural capacity and access dimensions, all while maintaining architectural coherence with the existing building fabric.
The new single-storey extension was designed with restraint, respecting the rural character of the village and the scale of the surrounding built environment. Interior modifications focused on improving spatial flow and living comfort, while the energy renovation measures enhance the long-term performance of the building envelope.
STARC, the architecture firm behind this project, demonstrates here its ability to address highly specific and unconventional briefs with technical rigour and a consistent architectural approach across residential projects in Wallonia.
