— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
The renovation and transformation of a house into a holiday cottage in Villance, in the province of Luxembourg in Wallonia, demonstrates how a carefully considered renovation project can bring together rural hospitality and contemporary comfort. The ambitious brief calls for accommodating twelve guests, six adults and six children, within a fully reimagined ensemble comprising five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a swimming pool, and a spa and poolhouse.
The transformation encompasses the entire existing building, whose massing and siting within the Ardennes landscape are preserved and enhanced. The interior layout is completely reorganised to meet the requirements of a collective guest accommodation, balancing the independence of each sleeping area with generous shared living spaces that open directly onto the outdoors.
The addition of the poolhouse and swimming pool deepens the dialogue between the building and its natural setting, establishing a fluid continuity between interior and garden. This functional extension affirms a spirit of relaxation and conviviality suited to high-end tourist accommodation in Wallonia. STARC, an architecture firm based in Gembloux, Belgium, led the architectural design of this project, completed in 2023.
