— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

This renovation project in Bovesse, in the province of Namur in Wallonia, involves the demolition and reconstruction of a single-storey rear annexe to a three-facade house, with the creation of a new kitchen as its central purpose. The footprint and overall volume of the annexe are kept identical to the existing structure, preserving the coherence of the building's implantation and its relationship to the surrounding built and natural environment.

The reconstructed annexe features a flat roof and a cladding of grey composite panels, giving the extension a distinctly contemporary character. On the party wall side, the facade is finished in sienna-toned render, matching the existing treatment and ensuring a harmonious transition between the two volumes. This controlled duality of materials grounds the extension within its context while lending it a quiet singularity.

The project also includes a measured reworking of the right-hand side of the front facade, aimed at improving the liveability and energy performance of the rooms behind it. Designed by architecture firm STARC, the intervention pursues a dual ambition: enhancing the quality of the occupants' living spaces and integrating thoughtfully into the residential fabric of Bovesse.

The outcome is a balanced and contextually sensitive piece of residential architecture that demonstrates how a targeted renovation can lastingly improve the quality and comfort of a home without compromising its volumetric integrity.
