— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Ramillies, in the Walloon Brabant province, architecture firm STARC designed a detached single-family house that balances a contemporary architectural language with the classical character of the surrounding rural built environment.

The house is set back 7 metres from the road and benefits from lateral clearances of more than 10 metres on each side of the plot, giving the volume a discreet presence in the landscape while allowing light and air to flow freely around the building. The facades are clad in a plain, unshaded red brick, a material closely related to local building traditions, which contributes to the project's harmonious integration into its context.

The fenestration follows a predominantly vertical rhythm across the facades, lending the composition a calm and ordered appearance. The rear facade opens generously onto the garden and the surrounding countryside, creating a strong visual and spatial connection with the natural landscape. With its deliberately modest scale and its use of materials analogous to those found in the immediate vicinity, this residential architecture project sits naturally within a streetscape where it stands as the first dwelling on its side of the road.
