— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
A single-storey extension of approximately 35 square metres was designed and built in Corroy-Le-Château, in the province of Namur, Wallonia, with an architectural approach focused on sobriety and careful integration into the existing built context. This residential architecture project, carried out by STARC, expands a private home through a low-profile volume that engages in a considered dialogue with the original structure.
The restrained massing of the extension ensures formal continuity with the existing building, maintaining consistency in roof lines, heights and materiality. The implantation was carefully studied to preserve interior views and maximise natural light, qualities that are fundamental to any successful residential extension in a rural Walloon setting.
Though modest in footprint, the extension significantly enhances the spatial quality and everyday comfort of the home, creating fluid and generous living areas within a compact surface area. The architectural restraint applied throughout the project ensures its lasting integration into the village character of Corroy-Le-Château.
