— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Lasne-Chapelle-Saint-Lambert, in Walloon Brabant, STARC designed a single-storey rear extension to a detached family home built in 2018, providing a dedicated home office and a flexible multipurpose space within approximately 25 m².

The annexe is positioned at the rear of the property, built in direct continuity with an existing secondary volume. Its footprint falls strictly within the permitted building zone, ensuring full compliance with local planning regulations and a seamless integration into the surrounding residential fabric.

Architectural coherence drives the entire approach: the chosen materials, white render and aluminium window frames, are identical to those of the original building, preserving a consistent materiality and volumetric language across the whole property. Thanks to its modest scale and entirely rear-facing position, the extension remains invisible from the public realm and from neighbouring plots.

This project, delivered by the architecture firm STARC, demonstrates how a precise and restrained intervention can effectively address the evolving needs of a household without compromising the architectural character of the home or its integration into the residential landscape of Walloon Brabant.
