— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
This new residential construction in Alleur, in the province of Namur's neighbouring Liège province, brings together a four-facade family home and a midwifery practice within an architectural composition built around the dialogue of two distinct volumes. Architecture firm STARC designed a traditional two-storey main body under a pitched roof, finished in a light white render, set in deliberate contrast with a low, horizontal volume in grey limestone rubble stone that houses the professional practice. This duality of materiality directly expresses the dual functional nature of the brief.
The fenestration of the main volume favours large vertical openings that give the facade a sober rhythm while flooding the living spaces with generous natural light. The dark roof covering anchors the composition and heightens the contrast with the pale wall finishes, while the flat roof of the stone volume underlines the horizontality of the professional wing and marks the transition between the two entities.
The four-facade implantation ensures a good overall orientation and allows exterior circulation to be organised fluidly, with residential and professional access clearly separated from the gravel forecourt, providing immediate legibility for both clients of the practice and occupants of the home. Peripheral planting accompanies the massing without concealing it, grounding the project in its semi-rural setting on the outskirts of Liège.
