— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

This newly built detached house in Marneffe, in the province of Namur's neighbouring Liège region, demonstrates how residential architecture can draw on regional building tradition while achieving a measured contemporary expression. Designed by STARC, an architecture firm based in Wallonia, the project occupies a freestanding plot with a generous setback on all four sides, creating a balanced dialogue between the building and its verdant surroundings.

The composition pairs a main volume with a pitched roof and a lower flat-roofed extension housing the garage. This clear volumetric hierarchy ensures an immediately legible reading of the house, while the overall compactness supports efficient management of heated spaces. The facades are unified by a warm salmon-toned brick cladding, punctuated by anthracite-coloured joinery and completed by a dark roof covering that reinforces the chromatic coherence of the ensemble.

Glazed openings are handled with restraint: horizontal windows at upper-floor level and more generous apertures on the ground floor provide a steady rhythm without fragmenting the facade surfaces. A roof dormer introduces natural zenithal light into the attic space. Thoughtfully designed landscaping, including low hedgerows and structured planting, frames the transition between the public realm and the private domain, ensuring the house integrates harmoniously into its existing green setting in the Hesbaye countryside.
