Extension with one-bedroom apartment in Ernage

In Ernage, Namur province, STARC designed in 2022 a residential extension adding a one-bedroom apartment to an existing home, while creating a functional connection with the main house's living room, garage and utility room. The project brings two distinct built elements together into a unified whole, with careful attention to spatial continuity and volumetric coherence.

The intervention follows a logic of gentle densification, making the most of the existing plot rather than building on undeveloped land. The positioning of the extension takes into account the relationship with the existing structure and natural light conditions, ensuring a comfortable living environment within the new apartment.

Particular care was given to the junction between the two parts of the building: the transition from old to new is handled in a way that achieves architectural consistency, both in terms of materiality and the organisation of interior and exterior circulation. This project reflects the firm's ability to address mixed briefs combining extension work with the reorganisation of existing spaces, a common challenge in residential architecture in Wallonia.
