— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

This project involves the comprehensive renovation of a mid-terraced house in Perwez, in Walloon Brabant, centred on the restructuring of the roof volumes and the replacement of an ageing conservatory with a compact, carefully articulated single-storey extension. The architecture firm STARC guided the intervention with the aim of restoring legibility and coherence to a building that had grown through successive additions over time.

The extension is defined by its cantilevered flat roof, which creates a sheltered transitional zone between the interior and the garden. A large sliding glass door establishes a direct connection between the dining area and the outdoor space, while a vertical cladding of light-toned slats, set back from the roofline, introduces a measured façade rhythm and a material contrast with the sandy beige render of the existing house. This restrained, neutral palette ensures chromatic continuity between old and new without dissolving the distinction between the two.

Planting integrated in the foreground softens the dialogue between the built structure and its immediate surroundings. The project as a whole reflects a commitment to constructive restraint and volumetric consistency, prioritising quality of use and a controlled openness towards the garden.
