— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Ramillies, in the province of Walloon Brabant, this project involved the demolition and reconstruction of a garage and workshop, replacing a dilapidated structure while maintaining an identical footprint to the existing building. The architectural approach is driven by seamless integration into the existing residential context: facade materials, roofing and window frames were selected in direct continuity with those of the main house, eliminating any visual discontinuity between the two volumes.

The sole volumetric adjustment introduced concerns height: the eave level of the reconstructed garage is raised to match that of the dwelling, enabling the creation of an accessible attic space. This decision responds to a concrete functional need, as the house lacks both a basement and a loft, and now benefits from additional storage space without disrupting the overall balance of the composition.

STARC designed this intervention as a measured and coherent example of new construction within a residential setting: rebuilding within the same footprint, subtly improving the volume, and ensuring a seamless urban integration. The outcome is a homogeneous built ensemble in which the new garage sits naturally within the existing fabric of this Walloon Brabant village.
