— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Sauvenière, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), STARC carried out in 2021 the functional restructuring of an industrial storage site dedicated to formwork elements, combining spatial rationalisation with a disciplined architectural expression suited to the site's industrial character.

The storage areas were reorganised according to a coherent grid that improves vehicle circulation and clarifies internal flow patterns. The centrepiece of the project is an open canopy structure made up of a series of pyramidal modules with a tensioned textile membrane stretched over a lightweight steel framework. This comb-like arrangement, repeated at regular intervals, gives the site a clear formal identity while fulfilling a strictly pragmatic purpose: sheltering the stored materials from the weather without enclosing them within a solid envelope. The canopy remains permeable to air and lateral light, reducing the visual impact of the structure within the surrounding industrial landscape.

The ground-level layout follows the same logic of restraint. Circulation routes are kept clear, storage zones are precisely defined, and a one-hundred-cubic-metre tank is integrated into the overall scheme without disrupting existing access points. The chosen materiality, galvanised steel and dark membrane, sits naturally within the raw character of the site and reinforces the coherence between programme, use and architectural expression. This project illustrates the expertise of this architecture firm in designing tailored industrial infrastructure in Wallonia.
