— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In La Bruyère, set within an open periurban landscape in Namur province, this detached single-family house designed by STARC establishes a considered dialogue between contemporary architectural language and local building traditions. Positioned freely on its plot, the building releases its surroundings on all four sides, fostering a generous relationship between the built volume and the garden.

The two-storey volume is crowned by a dual-pitched roof clad in dark tiles, whose pronounced ridge line anchors the house in its regional context while the smooth, matt-white rendered facades assert a resolutely contemporary character. A plinth and a corner return treated in grey-toned brickwork provide a firm visual base and introduce a tactile materiality that offsets the prevailing whiteness. Black-framed joinery and black cladding slats create a coherent rhythmic pattern across the facades without rigidity.

The fenestration is carefully calibrated to reflect the programme: large glazed openings at ground level connect the living spaces to the south-facing garden, while the bedrooms on the upper floor benefit from more restrained windows that preserve privacy. This hierarchy of apertures reflects a thoughtful approach to natural light and the relationship between interior and exterior.

Landscaping composed of low plantings and young standard trees accompanies the volume without constraining it, gently integrating the project into its verdant Walloon surroundings.
