— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Braibant, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), architecture firm STARC designed a three-sided single-family house of approximately 130 m², built through self-construction on a plot with a pronounced longitudinal slope. The project is part of a subdivision whose planning regulations it carefully follows, from overall massing to material choices and roof geometry.

The facade features light grey brick cladding complemented by darker grey surfaces, ensuring visual consistency with the adjoining dwellings. The duo-pitched roof, running parallel to the street and finished with slate tiles, adopts a 35-degree pitch matching the neighbouring building, reinforcing the coherent architectural reading of the development. Window openings are predominantly vertical in proportion, except on the rear north-facing elevation, where wider glazed bays open broadly onto the surrounding landscape.

The interior layout is organised across three levels: the ground floor brings together the daytime living spaces, including the living room, kitchen, and a utility-technical room; the upper floor houses three bedrooms and two bathrooms; while the attic provides a dedicated storage volume. The absence of a basement directed the design towards careful earthworks at ground-floor level to address the natural relief of the sloping terrain.
