— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Corroy-le-Château, in the province of Namur, Wallonia, STARC designed a ±50 m² two-storey extension to an existing single-family home, with a careful approach to architectural integration and contextual coherence.
The project builds on a previously granted planning permission from 2004, retaining the same footprint and overall massing while introducing thoughtful adaptations. The ground floor now houses a dedicated home-office space and a playroom with a small kitchenette, while the upper floor is arranged as a master suite, providing an additional bedroom within the existing home. The extension features a straightforward pitched roof at 40°, and the glazed single-pitch roof of the connecting link maximises natural light between the two volumes, creating a bright and fluid transition.
The choice of materials ensures a seamless dialogue with the existing building: pink and red brick echoes the original facade, dark grey composite cladding defines the articulation zone between the two volumes, and blue stone highlights the thresholds. Window frames in grey-blue tones maintain chromatic continuity across old and new. The surrounding grounds are finished with permeable interlocking paving, preserving soil drainage while accommodating vehicle parking on the driveway.
This residential extension project meets current energy performance requirements and sits harmoniously within the built character of Corroy-le-Château.
