— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
A newly built detached family home in Genval, Walloon Brabant, designed with a clear commitment to formal restraint and landscape integration within a suburban residential context. STARC, the architecture firm behind the project, positioned the building to take full advantage of the plot's depth, setting the volume free from its boundaries and embedding it within a carefully composed garden of perennial planting and structured lawn.
The massing is compact and coherent: a single volume crowned by an asymmetric pitched roof that engages with neighbouring typologies without replicating them. A smooth white render unifies all four facades, while a dark plinth grounds the building and draws a deliberate line between earth and built form. The fenestration is handled with restraint, combining sparse vertical openings with generously glazed bays at ground level, all framed in anthracite joinery, to control views from the street and channel natural light toward the garden.
The roof slopes are oriented to allow the discreet integration of roof-mounted panels without compromising the clarity of the building's silhouette. The connection between interior and exterior is established primarily on the garden side, where large sliding doors extend the living spaces onto a mineral terrace and into the surrounding planting. This residential architecture project in Genval exemplifies a domestic architecture confident in its sobriety, where every material and compositional decision contributes to a balanced and considered relationship with its landscape setting.
