— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

In Jodoigne, in the Walloon Brabant province of Belgium, STARC architecture firm designed a contemporary industrial building of approximately 3,300 m² to expand the activities of Jackson Meuble, housing a furniture assembly workshop, a showroom, and a storage area.

The architectural approach centres on a clean, restrained volume that sits in coherent dialogue with the existing buildings on site, positioned perpendicularly to them so as to define strong lines and create a legible central hub articulated around a redesigned car park. Two vertical mezzanine openings at the corners of the building introduce generous natural light into the interior and frame views towards the adjacent pond and the surrounding green spaces. One of these vertical features forms the main entrance, distinguished by a canopy in black composite panel.

The materiality is precise and contrasted: white sandwich panels clad the facades, while black aluminium window frames and a black lacquered aluminium roof edge give the building a rigorous contemporary character. The surrounding landscaping is equally considered, with grass paving slabs ensuring fire-engine access while preserving soil permeability, and a planted hedge reinforcing the landscape integration of the project.

The core design intent is to respect the existing fauna and flora on the site, returning a meaningful share of the ground to vegetation and maintaining a sensitive dialogue between industrial architecture and the natural environment in this part of Wallonia.
