— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Falisolle, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), STARC architecture firm carried out the renovation of a corner single-family house, combining the demolition of outdated outbuildings with the construction of a new contemporary extension housing a living area and a carport.
The architectural approach focuses on reorienting the living spaces towards the garden. The front room, previously used merely as a passageway, is redesigned as a proper entrance hall with staircase, opening onto a bright new living and dining room. Large glazed openings maximise natural light and frame views of the garden. The ground floor reorganisation also includes a study, a playroom and a separate WC.
The new extension features a simple, linear, single-storey volume with a flat roof, echoing the language of the existing corner building while introducing a deliberate contemporary contrast. Dark and light grey fibre-cement panels combined with timber respond elegantly to the original brick facade of the house. The architectural gesture is slender and understated, contributing to the urban streetscape along both road frontages. The carport is fully integrated into the extension, underscoring the coherence of the overall design.
Completed in 2020, this residential architecture project in Namur province significantly improves the energy performance of the building while providing clearly defined, high-quality living spaces.
