— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Warre, a quiet village in the province of Luxembourg, Wallonia, STARC designed a four-sided detached family home with a south-east-facing garden that maximises natural sunlight throughout the day. Completed in 2020 as a turnkey project, the house responds to the clients' desire to settle in a peaceful, landscaped setting while enjoying generous, light-filled living spaces.
The volumetry follows a composed and traditional language: a compact mass topped by a duo-pitched roof clad in flat interlocking dark grey slates, lending the home a timeless and grounded silhouette. The plot sits below street level, and this topographic condition was thoughtfully resolved by integrating a small flight of steps into the existing embankment, framed by flowering borders that welcome visitors with a carefully considered approach.
The interior programme centres on a large open-plan living and kitchen area benefiting from wide glazed openings that blur the boundary between inside and outside. The night-time hall is deliberately generous and open across two levels, bringing volume and natural light deep into the heart of the home. At the rear, tiled terraces wrap around a swimming pool, creating a cohesive outdoor living space perfectly aligned with the south-east orientation.
Materiality is defined by quality and consistency: hand-moulded Nelissen Goya bricks in warm pink and dark grey tones give the facades a tactile, artisanal quality, complemented by anthracite composite panels matched to the window frames for a unified, refined finish.
