— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Lonzée, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), architecture firm STARC oversaw the transformation of an existing showroom and warehouse complex into a mixed-use economic facility, combining an industrial hall, offices and a showroom within a controlled and coherent architectural composition.
The design respects the existing building envelopes. The office volume is organised around the main structure, with a modest increase in height to accommodate two levels of workspace, while the showroom retains its original footprint and is attached to the office wing. The street facade is composed as a unified frontage that visually brings together both functions. The industrial hall remains structurally unchanged and connects naturally with the new volume.
The office layout is designed for flexibility, adaptable to one or several businesses. The upper-floor open-plan space can be made fully independent through a separate entrance, which also opens onto an exterior terrace at first-floor level. Timber cladding ensures privacy and screens the view towards the neighbouring garden. Window openings are sized according to each function: large glazed surfaces on the front and side facades of the offices provide generous natural light throughout the workspaces.
White composite panels clad the main facade, giving the building a contemporary identity that makes it legible from the road while remaining in harmony with its surroundings. White render unifies the side elevations, consolidating the project's integration into the built fabric of Lonzée.
