— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Malonne, in the province of Namur, Wallonia, this detached single-family house was designed to integrate seamlessly into an established residential neighbourhood. The building's scale, vertical proportions and pitched roof, whose ridge aligns with those of the adjacent principal structures, reflect a considered approach to urban integration typical of classical residential architecture in the region.
The layout distributes a classical entrance hall, living room, kitchen and utility room across the ground floor, while the upper level accommodates four bedrooms and a bathroom, providing generous living space for a family. The front driveway allows parking for two vehicles, and a two-car garage is planned as a future addition to the house.
The facade composition follows a clear architectural logic: on the street elevation, window openings are arranged along strong vertical axes, reinforcing the classical character of the design, while the garden elevation features large, horizontally aligned openings that maximise natural light and create a broad visual connection with the outdoor space. This duality between a composed street facade and an open garden facade gives the house a dual identity, both rooted in its context and oriented towards interior life. STARC led the architecture of this project, completed in 2020.
