— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Grez-Doiceau, in the province of Walloon Brabant, STARC architecture firm designed a detached single-family house with four facades, built according to a traditional construction approach that integrates naturally into the existing built environment. The project is characterized by a clean, straightforward volumetry carefully positioned on the plot to meet the family's needs while respecting the architectural character of the surrounding neighbourhood.
The interior layout follows a clear and functional organization. On the ground floor, the main living spaces, including the living room, dining area and open kitchen, are oriented towards the garden to maximize natural light and create a direct connection with the outdoor space. The more technical areas, such as the entrance hall, cloakroom, utility room and garage, face the street, acting as a transition zone between the public realm and the private home.
On the upper floor, three bedrooms including a master suite with dressing room and en-suite bathroom, a hall that can also serve as a home office, a family bathroom and a separate toilet form a well-organized and comfortable sleeping level. A basement and potentially convertible attic space provide additional flexibility for future use.
Particular attention was also given to the building's implantation, which allows several vehicles to be parked on the property without encroaching on the public road, reinforcing the quality of the relationship between the house and its street frontage.
