— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

The transformation of a single-family house in Sauvenière, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), combines a contemporary rear extension with interior renovation to expand the living programme while preserving the existing street frontage.

The centrepiece of the project is the conversion of an existing outbuilding into a new volume attached to the main structure. Hidden from the public realm, this addition is nonetheless given a distinct architectural identity through a flat roof and a red-brown brick cladding that reads as contemporary and singular, while integrating naturally into the surrounding built context. Openings are oriented exclusively towards the garden and follow a strongly vertical rhythm that gives order to the rear elevation. STARC, the architecture firm based in Gembloux, authored this project, which reflects a commitment to formal restraint and careful volumetric control.

On the main building, two garden-side windows are widened to increase natural light in the dining room and a bedroom, while two roof lights bring daylight into the converted loft, now used as an additional bedroom. Interior works also include the reorganisation of circulation spaces and the refurbishment of the bathroom, resulting in a more functional and luminous home.
