— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
This new office building, designed by STARC, was conceived as a legible and autonomous structure within a dense industrial production site dedicated to synthetic phosphate manufacturing in India. The architectural approach establishes a clear identity for the building without competing with the surrounding industrial infrastructure.
The positioning along the internal service road creates a distinct interface between pedestrian flows and production areas, while offering a representative facade directly accessible from the site's main access route. The massing is deliberately horizontal, with a single-storey flat-roof volume that responds to the measured scale of the programme and aligns with the rhythm of the existing adjacent buildings.
The main facade is articulated through a tripartite composition: light render panels, vertical timber louvres providing visual and acoustic screening, and large glazed openings with dark framing that punctuate the elevation with a regular rhythm. This arrangement gives the volume a structured yet non-rigid reading, while allowing generous natural light into the workspaces.
The palette of white render, timber and painted steel introduces a degree of warmth into a predominantly mineral and technical environment. A green chromatic accent, applied selectively on the adjacent volume, ensures visual coherence across the ensemble and anchors the building's identity within the immediate industrial landscape, without ostentation.
