— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
This detached single-family house in Mazy, in the province of Namur, Wallonia, was designed with a restrained and orthogonal volumetry that integrates seamlessly into an established residential subdivision. The project, carried out by the architecture firm STARC, draws its logic from the existing street scale, respecting the designated building zone while offering a well-organised family home across two storeys.
The ground floor brings together the main living areas, a bathroom and the vertical circulation, with an attached garage forming a secondary volume. On the upper floor, three bedrooms and a second bathroom provide a functional and well-balanced layout. A technical basement beneath the main volume houses all building services, while the space above the garage roof is left available for future conversion. Dual-pitch roofs at 35 degrees crown both volumes, echoing the prevailing roofline of neighbouring houses.
The facade treatment is deliberate and contextual: red-brown brick slips clad the majority of the exterior surfaces, while a white render panel introduces a subtle variation on the street-facing elevation. Anthracite window frames complete the palette, lending the house a quiet, contemporary character that sits comfortably within its surroundings without seeking to stand apart.
