— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
The conversion of an existing building into two three-bedroom family homes in Rixensart demonstrates how architectural transformation can quietly contribute to the densification of the built fabric in Walloon Brabant. Rather than opting for new construction, the project capitalises on the potential of an existing structure to generate two distinct, autonomous and fully functional residential units.
The volumetric division of the building was carefully considered to ensure that each home benefits from its own identity, a coherent interior layout and quality living conditions. The inherited footprint is preserved, and the transformation integrates discreetly into the existing urban context, maintaining the visual balance of the surrounding neighbourhood.
This renovation and conversion project, designed by STARC architecture firm in 2024, reflects a resource-conscious approach to contemporary housing needs. By transforming an existing building rather than building from scratch, the project provides genuine family housing in the municipality of Rixensart while minimising its impact on the territory.
