— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Wépion, in the province of Namur, STARC completed a full renovation of an existing residential building to create two distinct and self-contained apartments. The project reflects a commitment to working with the existing built fabric rather than demolishing it, in line with contemporary approaches to gentle densification within established residential areas.
Converting the single dwelling into two independent units required a careful reading of the interior layout, access arrangements and the stacking of functions. Each apartment was designed with its own autonomous spatial organisation, ensuring comfort and quality of living while preserving the envelope and architectural character of the original building.
This project demonstrates the architecture firm's expertise in residential conversion: identifying the latent potential of an existing structure, working within its constructional constraints and delivering a coherent programmatic response. In Wépion, this renovation contributes to a more diverse housing offer within a well-established built context.
