— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Ciney, in the province of Namur in Wallonia, STARC designed a group of three terraced bel-etage houses, each with two facades and a garage at ground-floor level. The architectural approach is grounded in a careful reading of the existing urban fabric, with an implantation that respects the street alignment while asserting a quietly contemporary identity.
The restrained and rhythmic massing of the three dwellings establishes a coherent ensemble without falling into monotony. Subtle variations in facade composition animate the sequence of buildings and give each unit its own presence within the whole. By dedicating the ground floor entirely to parking, the upper levels are freed for generous, light-filled living spaces oriented towards the street and the surrounding context.
This new residential construction project demonstrates the architecture firm's ability to respond to grouped housing programmes in an urban setting, balancing urbanistic integration, constructive efficiency and architectural quality. The ensemble contributes to the regeneration of a plot in the heart of Ciney, a dynamic town in the Namur province of Wallonia.
