In Jodoigne, in the Walloon Brabant province, STARC designed a mixed-use development combining eight new residential units built above an existing office building, alongside the conversion of the office floor space into shared coworking areas. This project embodies a contemporary approach to gentle urban densification, stacking a residential programme onto an existing commercial building rather than consuming additional land.
The volumetry of the new dwellings crowns the existing structure with a coherent and restrained architectural language, ensuring careful urban integration within the fabric of Jodoigne. Each apartment has been designed with close attention to orientation, natural light and the quality of living spaces, balancing comfort and architectural sobriety.
At ground and first-floor levels, the office space has been redesigned to accommodate flexible workstations, responding to evolving working practices and the growing demand for adaptable office environments in Walloon Brabant. This dual programming makes the project a compelling example of combined conversion and new construction, maximising the potential of an existing building while creating new housing in an urban setting.
