In Flawinne, in the province of Namur in Wallonia, STARC designed a new residential complex of fourteen apartments that carefully integrates into the existing built fabric of this semi-rural village. The project follows a strategy of gentle densification, responding to the local morphology and the scale of its surroundings.
The volumetric composition organises the different parts of the building so as to minimise the visual impact of the ensemble while ensuring that each apartment benefits from favourable orientations and generous natural light. The relationship between interior spaces and private outdoor areas was given particular attention, providing each unit with a qualitative connection to its immediate environment.
The choice of materials reflects a coherent and restrained approach in line with the local architectural context, favouring durable and understated solutions. The building's implantation was carefully studied to preserve views, optimise open spaces and ensure a respectful transition between the new construction and the neighbouring buildings.
This new-build residential project in Flawinne demonstrates the ability of this Belgian architecture firm to address collective housing programmes in semi-rural settings, balancing density, quality of use and landscape integration.
