— Project intent

A precise answer to the site and programme.

A three-apartment residential building in Ramillies, Walloon Brabant, designed with a restrained two-pitched roof volumetry that integrates naturally into the existing streetscape.

The architectural concept is structured around two complementary volumes. The principal volume, rendered in white over three levels (ground floor, first floor and mansard storey), is punctuated by a full-height vertical band of red facing brick that signals the entrance. A grey rendered plinth grounds the composition. The secondary volume, finished entirely in red facing brick with a flat roof, responds to the scale of the adjoining property's outbuilding and reinforces urban continuity along the street.

The treatment of openings is deliberately differentiated by facade. On the street side, vertically proportioned windows echo the rhythm of the neighbouring dwellings. At the rear, where the building opens onto a broad, unobstructed green landscape, larger glazed openings bring generous natural light into every living room and frame the surrounding countryside. The mansard apartment benefits from the same quality of view and daylight through a dormer fitted with a full-height window in the roof slope.

Black-toned roof tiles and anthracite grey PVC joinery complete the material palette, lending the building a coherent architectural identity firmly rooted in the built context of Ramillies. STARC, the architecture firm based in Gembloux, led the design of this residential project.
