— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Sauvenière, in the province of Namur, Wallonia, STARC designed a pair of semi-detached three-façade family homes combining compact design, energy efficiency and careful integration into the existing built environment. Completed in 2020, the project delivers generous living areas while maintaining a coherent dialogue with the surrounding residential context.
The architectural approach is rooted in restraint and urban continuity. The choice of red-brown brick, the window typology and the roof treatment echo the character of neighbouring buildings, ensuring a respectful contextual integration without sacrificing the individual identity of each home. A projecting secondary volume with a flat roof articulates the front façade of each dwelling and provides a carport, a functional response to the required setback from the public realm.
On the rear façade, large openings oriented towards the garden allow abundant natural light to flood the living spaces, establishing a strong visual and spatial connection with the private outdoor area. The compact overall massing contributes to the thermal performance of both homes.
