— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Mont-Saint-Guibert, in the province of Walloon Brabant, STARC designed a four-unit residential building that combines compactness, formal restraint and careful integration into an established neighbourhood. The building is set back from the street within the designated construction zone, freeing up outdoor space that accommodates ten parking spaces on site and keeps the public road clear.
The building's scale matches that of the surrounding constructions: a ground floor facing the street, topped by a pitched roof on the central volume and flat roofs on the secondary volumes. This layered massing gives the project a clear and coherent reading. The facade composition follows a strong principle of verticality, with window openings aligned on a common vertical axis. On the rear elevation, wide openings oriented towards the garden ensure generous natural light in every apartment.
The choice of materials echoes the tones and textures found in the local built environment. A white-grey palette unifies the whole: slate roof covering, light grey brick and white render on the facades, and anthracite grey window frames. This consistent material approach ensures that the new residential building integrates harmoniously into both its built and natural surroundings, making it a considered contribution to the architectural landscape of Wallonia.
