— Project intent
A precise answer to the site and programme.
In Gembloux, in the province of Namur (Wallonia), architecture firm STARC designed a five-apartment residential building that combines a classic pitched-roof form with a refined contemporary expression. The building, comprising three simplex and two duplex units, is set back from the street in compliance with the local planning regulations applicable to the site, ensuring a respectful integration within the existing urban fabric.
The choice of materials reinforces the coherence of the ensemble: white render on the facades and dark anthracite slate roofing give the building a timeless and restrained character. Dormers positioned on both the front and rear elevations bring ample natural light into the mansard levels, while the alignment of window openings along the same vertical axis as the dormers creates a rhythmic, vertically dominant facade composition.
The interior layout prioritises living spaces facing the garden and bedrooms facing the street, maximising occupant comfort throughout the day. The project also benefits from its immediate proximity to Gembloux railway station, making it well suited to sustainable urban mobility. Each apartment includes a dedicated parking space, with additional visitor parking available at street level, and a secure bicycle storage room provided for all residents.
